AVSS wire is a type of thin PVC insulated stranded copper wire used in essentially all modern Japanese vehicles where wire temperatures are under 80C.
AV wire is the oldest type of electrical wires for automotive. Recently, the industry has moved to wires which have thinner insulation and smaller outside diameter like AVSS and DIVUS(CIVUS) etc.
AVSS wire properties and specifications are dictated by the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JASO), especially JASO D625.
The full description of AVSS wire is as follows:
- Very Thin PVC Insulated Low-voltage Copper Wires for Automobiles (Thin wall 2)
A: Low-voltage wires for automobiles
V: Vinyl
SS: Super thin type

AVSS wire is available from Japanese manufacturers such as Sumitomo.
