Trailer Connectors

Trailer Connectors are a standardized set of connectors dictated by the SAE J1239, J2863, and J560 standards among others.

Below are the most common US trailer connector types.

4 Wire Position Connectors:

The 4 position flat trailer plug is commonly used on small utility and boat trailers without brakes.
5 Wire Position Connectors:

The 5 position flat trailer plug is commonly used on small utility and boat trailer without brakes and with reversing lights.
6 Wire Position Connectors:

Pop up campers, travel trailers, campers, 5th wheel trailers.
Pop up camper trailers.
7 Wire Position Connectors:

The traditional 7-way RV blade format is typically used on 5th wheel trailers, travel trailers and campers. The trailer wiring colors for this configuration are different than those on the SAE configuration.
SAE J2863
The SAE J2863 7-way RV blade format is typically used on gooseneck trailers, utility trailers, cargo trailers and equipment trailers.
