AVS wire is a type of thin PVC insulated stranded copper wire used in modern Japanese vehicles where wire temperatures are under 80 °C.

AV wire is the oldest type of automotive electrical wire. Recently, the industry has shifted to wires with thinner insulation and smaller outside diameters such as AVS and AVSS to reduce weight and save space in wiring harnesses.

AVS wire properties and specifications are defined by the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JASO), particularly JASO D625.

The full description of AVS wire is as follows:

  • Thin PVC Insulated Low-voltage Copper Wires for Automobiles (Thin wall)

A: Low-voltage wires for automobiles

V: Vinyl

S: Thin type
